Yet not one thing about the narrowing and reducing and redevelopment of Podwale Przedmiejskie. That will reconnect one of the nicest and main parts of the city. An award should be given for a citizens knowing so little about their own city. Gdansk citizens are more interested in another shopping mall, than serious improvements.
@Nick Usalis Knight I normally don't like your posts because come across as someone very self-important, but you are right on the money on this point. The entire Podwale Przedmiejskie is a communist aberration that should be redeveloped as soon as possible. The same goes for Waly Jagielonskie, etc., but that's a bit different story. Anyway, current Podwale Przedmiejskie effectively closes the access to Stare Przedmiescie for tourists and locals alike. Yeah, the post-war rebuilding of that area was a shoddy job, but there still are beautiful and historically important places such as St. Peter's church, the National Museum, the Little Arsenal (needs revamping and TLC), and of course the Bastions and the sluice. Add to that Victoriaschule and site of Przybyszewska's bungalow. Not to mention other smaller buildings that survived the war and can still be seen proudly sporting bullet holes. Once the connection is reestablished I feel that the area will become "trendy", similar to Kazimierz in Krakow or Praga in Warsaw. And a big "gas face" to the communists who fully destroyed the original, uninterrupted fabric of the city. And, believe it or not, you can read in some commie books of the 70's that Podwale Przedmiejskie was created so that a visitor would have a "better view" of Glowne Miasto! The gall of those losers! Anyway, Nick, take my remarks about your perceived "self-importance" and big ego with a big grain of salt. Although I often disagree with you, you are obviously a person who cares very much about this magical city, and that is the most important thing of all.
